The Secret to Finding Effective Medications
Over the counter drugs, that have been launched into markets across the nation, come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and with different types of coatings.
Do people ever wonder how these pills have become a part of one’s daily life? In 1959, acetaminophen (chemical name for the common household drug, Tylenol) became available for minor and common health issues, like a cold, without the requirement of a doctor’s prescription. As a result, many of the generic drug companies inclined more towards producing oral drug products. A variation of this necessity was being found in the form of tablets, caplets, and more. Even after receiving the same dose of these medications with the same pharmaceutical composition, the time it took the drug to solace the consumer contradicted.
The following information presented will help society by providing people a good sense of which type to consume when you desire the quickest relief. I will help break-down this experiment to spread knowledge about why different pill coatings exist and how they affect consumers, and which one to choose when shopping at your local pharmacy or department store.
1. Tablets:
They have no coating over them. This is the reason that when they are swallowed, tablets are the first to react with the stomach acid (pH of the stomach) and the internal conditions of the stomach (temperature and fluid movement). Tablets start dissolving the quickest which would provide primary relief to the person which shows - If the amount of time the pill takes to completely disperse its medicine is long (after initially dispersing the medication), it means that the pill has a longer effect of its relief.
2. Caplets:
They are coated with a thin layer of gelatin which breaks down and disperses the medication when in contact with stomach acid. They finished dissolving the quickest due to the same conditions in the stomach as the ones conducted for the tablets. The faster dissolving time concluded that it would provide instant relief, but the medications’ effect would not last long.
All in all, faster dissolving times (caplets) meant instant relief measures taken to help the consumer, whereas overall longer dissolving times (tablet) could mean the drug having its effect for a longer period of time. So, the next time you are struggling and in pain and end up rushing to your local store, consider the information. Take a second to see the different types of coated medications in the store and choose wisely with reference to your situation/ how you want relief.
